A number of the VIP crew are planning a trip to the Ameristar in Black Hawk, CO from Thursday, May 16 to Sunday, May 19. Elites/Owners should get free rooms from your host. Others can log into your Penn Play to get a player’s rate.

Several daily non-stop flights are available on Southwest. As of the time of this post, some are as low as $80 each way. If you want to drive it, it’s 624 miles from Hollywood to Ameristar, or about 8.75 hours.

Car rentals, at least from the major companies, are a little pricey at DEN. They start at about $90/day. Smaller companies, like Fox, are cheaper, but their customer service is crap.

Strangely enough, there doesn’t appear to be regular shuttle service all the way from the airport to the Black Hawk casino area. However, Casinoshuttle.com offers bus transportation from points in the Denver metro to the casinos.

Using RTD transit and the Casino Shuttle bus, this appears to be the most efficient way to get there. The steps:

  1. RTD A line inbound from DEN airport to Denver Union Station: $10 each way. Trains run about every 15 minutes. Transit time is about 40 minutes.
  2. RTD W line westbound from Union Station to Lakewood (Federal Center Station): $2.75 each way. Exit station at gate R. Trains run about every 15 minutes. Transit time is about 40 minutes
  3. Casinoshuttle.com bus picks up here and goes to all of the casinos, Ameristar first. Service costs $30/person cash, or $27/person paid on the website via credit card. Part of your fare can be reimbursed with play at destination casinos, likely issued as free play. Buses depart on the hour. Transit time is about 45 minutes.
